Safety, Quality & Sustainability

How we build matters as much as what we build — operational excellence, quality management and responsible construction on every site.

Operational excellence, applied on site

Al-Futtaim Contracting is committed to conducting its operations responsibly and ethically, paying due attention to the health and safety of employees, contractors, stakeholders and the public, and to the protection of the environment. We operate an operational excellence management system, which recognises that safe operations depend not only on technically sound facilities but on competent people and an active safety culture.

Our commitments

  • Integrate operational excellence into every aspect of our business activities, and continually seek opportunities for improvement
  • Comply fully with all health, safety and environment laws and regulations
  • Establish adequate control over our activities, with the aim of incident-free operations
  • Follow recognised engineering standards and risk management principles
  • Conduct hazard and risk assessments to identify and safely manage present and future hazards
  • Ensure conformity through a comprehensive compliance programme, including audits
  • Conserve resources and manage emissions and waste responsibly

Quality that is designed in

Quality on a construction site is mostly a planning outcome. Inspection and test plans agreed before work starts, benchmark samples approved before a trade goes into production, and materials verified on delivery will prevent far more defects than any amount of checking at the end. We hold the same standard for our own supervision as we do for our subcontractors, and we record the evidence as we go so that handover is a formality rather than a negotiation.

Building responsibly

Sustainability on a live project is practical work: reducing waste through model-led take-off and prefabrication, selecting plant and systems for their operating cost as well as their capital cost, protecting the site's surroundings during construction, and commissioning building systems properly so they perform as designed rather than merely function. Our energy management specialists are involved before handover, so the building starts efficient instead of being corrected later.

Trained supervision

Competent, directly employed supervisors on every package, with authority to stop unsafe work.

Risk assessed in advance

Method statements and risk assessments prepared while work is planned, not after it begins.

Audit and review

A continuing programme of internal audits, with corrective and preventive actions tracked to closure.

Performance in use

Commissioning, metering and energy monitoring that prove the building performs after we leave.

Operating safely is not a cost of doing the work. It is what doing the work properly looks like.
